Curriculum Intent

BTECs are vocationally related qualifications, where students develop knowledge and understanding by applying their learning and skills in a work-related context. BTEC courses encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning and to develop skills that are essential for the modern-day
workplace. These skills include: team working; working from a prescribed brief; working to deadlines; presenting information effectively and accurately. BTEC courses motivate students, and open doors to progression into further study and responsibility within the workplace.

Within this course we intend to

  • Develop key skills in health and social care such as interpreting data to assess an individual’s health
  • Develop knowledge of the processes that underpins effective ways of working in health and social care, such as designing a plan to improve an individual’s health and wellbeing
  • Develop awareness of the care values and how to use them to empower a service user and to practice applying them
  • Understand human development across the life stages and categorise development into 4 areas (PIES)
  • Understand how factors can affect our development
  • To gain knowledge of Health and Social Care services and the support they offer
  • To support the teaching of SMSC
